The Virtual Diabetes Register (VDR), an estimate of national diabetes prevalence, is an important tool to monitor prevalence of diabetes and support national and local clinical quality improvements. The VDR is collated annually at the end of March and is an estimate as at 31 December of the previous year. The VDR uses data extracted from five national collections and is refined using the VDR algorithm. People with diabetes who were deceased and those not enrolled in a PHO are excluded from the totals.
More information can be found on the Ministry of Health VDR website.
